Preparation

Students enrolled in the 2nd Grade in Sacred Heart Catholic School and those who are in 2nd Grade in our CCD Program will prepare for the Sacrament.

Requirements

Students who will be making their First Communion at Sacred Heart must submit a copy of their Baptismal Certificate to the Rectory Office.

If you are nota parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, you must obtain a "Letter of Permission" from your Church Parish, giving your child permission to receive the Sacrament of First Communion at Sacred Heart and verifying that you are active parishioners in their church parish in order to make their First Communion. Also, a Non-Parishioner must have their child attend Mass in their parish on Sundays on a weekly basis.

A Parishioner is:

  • One who attends Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on a weekly basis
  • One who directly participates in the life of the parish
  • One who financially supports the parish through the use of the parish envelopes

The easiest way for the Parish Office to keep track of who attends Mass on a regular basis and who financially supports the parish is through the use of the contribution envelopes. Therefore, the use of the contribution envelopes will be the criterion used to determine who is a Registered Parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish.

For a child to make their First Communion at Sacred Heart Church, they must be properly formed where they have a comprehensive understanding of the Holy Eucharist; that it is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and they must be properly disposed to approach this Sacrament with faith and devotion. It will be left up to the discretion of the pastor whether or not the child is properly disposed and formed. If the communion candidate's requirements are not fulfilled, First Communion will be postponed to a later time.
